The Deck at Weil Hotel Ipoh

During my stay at Weil Hotel Ipoh this year, I attended a dinner at The Deck situated at the rooftop of the hotel. The food presented that night was the creation of Chef Sam Lau and his team and I truly enjoyed the dish creations. Chef’s cooking had an English influence which got me inspired to dive in for more.

Craft Your Own Prince Hotel White Coffee Baked Mooncake

10 Prince_Freshly_Baked_Moon_Cake

Lunar worshiping and moon watching are part of the ritual during the night of the celebration day while mooncakes are offered between friends and even during family gatherings. The 15th day of the 8th Lunar month happened to fall on mid September this year and the Mid-Autumn Festival or “Zhongqiu” Festival will be celebrated. Mooncake was treated as luxury when I was a child and my dad will make sure we will have a least a box for this special occasion. We the kids we jumping up and down with joy when the mooncake was sliced and looking at the golden orangy salted duck egg yolk was just a glowing jewel with dismay.

Tai Zi Heen Mooncake A

In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival or the Mooncake Festival we were invited to indulge The Prince & The Mooncake exclusively at Tai Zi Heen. It was an awesome night as we were indulging such beauties and exclusive mooncakes from traditional to mini snow skin. Curry Noodle, Nam Chau Coffeeshop, Ipoh

I am truely a curry noodle lover and will travel anywhere just to enjoy every second of this spicy and full of aroma noodle. Nam Chau coffeeshop in Ipoh oldtown is one of them not to be miss. As usual the prices of food in Ipoh is much cheaper than KL, not surprising that this Nam Chau curry noodle is not expensive either. I love both dry and curry soup noodle.

Nam Chau coffeeshop also serve good Ipoh white coffee and the tradisional bread toast. So if you drop by at Ipoh ,do drop by at Nam Chau coffeeshop.

Yours Sidney

Bukit Tambun Seafood Restaurant, Tasek, Ipoh

Where am I now….. oh yes Ipoh, my hometown. Ipoh is just about 2 hours drive north from the city, Kuala Lumpur. Ipoh is a place known for their food and also not forgetting the ‘menglembu’ sun dry whole peanuts.

Ipoh, itself is known for hawker food such as curry noodles, beef noodles, fish ball noodles, popiah, satay, rojak and many more but the most famous thing that had been known throughout the country is the Ipoh White Coffee.

Here today, I would love to introduce one of Ipoh best seafood restaurant, the Bukit Tambun Seafood Restaurant which is located in the town called Tasek, and is famous for producing cement, the tasek cement company.

For myself, I really adore this restaurant because to the freshness of their fishes, prawns and crabs. Here they also serve life prawns, life mantin prawns, life sea snails and even life garupa fish and many other kinds too. The following are the dishes that we ordered during dining there:
Steam fresh and live Garupa Fish

Stir fried Sea Snails

Steam Fresh Water Prawns in Eggwhite

“Sang Har Mein” Fresh Water Prawns Noodle

Butter Baked Giant Life Mantis Prawns

Verdict: Fantastic, Well Worth Your Money!

To Kill A Thirst – Ipoh White Iced Coffee

Sun Yuan Foong Coffee Shop, Ipoh
It was rather a hot and sunny afternoon in Ipoh and we were looking for something to kill our thirst and maybe some snack too. Mum suggested that we should have some Ipoh best known white coffee and toasted bread aka “roti bakar” from Sun Yuan Foong Coffee Shop located at Ipoh Old Town. It is the best coffee in town. The shop looked rustic and it reminded me my grown up in this little town. I am an Ipoh boy or Ipoh ‘mali’.

Sun Yuan Foong Coffee Shop itself serves bread toast with kaya, butter or homemade peanut butter, half boiled egg, sausages, scrambled egg and white coffee. One thing that really striked me was the twin half boiled egg on toast. They are such a lovely and delicious dish. The eggs tasted so silk and full of flavour, together with the toasted bread, it leaves the texture of crunchiness and meltes straight through in your mouth.
Oh, what a wonderful and refreshing glass of iced white coffee and guarrantee a glass will not be enough. Sun Yuan Foong Coffee Shop also sells the white coffee powder and they are all home roasted white coffee. I quickly bought one packet myself and was looking forward to enjoy a cup at my own pleasure.
As you can see, the twin half boiled eggs were done at the right time and they just cooked so gorgeously, melts in your mouth and abundanced with flavour.

Lastly we had their famously known peanut butter toast. they are so lovely and yet not enough to kill my stomach.

I would really recommend this well known local coffee shop if you are here in Ipoh or you are stopping by.
