Renowned celebrity Chef Emmanuel Stroobant was in town recently and I got the chance to meet him in person, yes in person as he was launching the new menu that he developed for 7atenine, Kuala Lumpur. He is the consultant chef to award-winning 7atenine and did a delightful demonstration of food preparation where as I had the great honour to taste the creation at the tasting session.

RECREATING JERRY & PEI WERN’S WEDDING CAKE | SUGAR PASTE CLASS

It had been a very exciting weekend in Penang as it was my first time to teach my students on how to create a sugar paste wedding cake. “Well, this is nothing new to me”, I told myself with laughter. In fact creating sugar paste cakes was the first skill that I picked up when I got into the baking industry, that was more than 15years ago, and it was at the famous Sunflower Baking Shop at that time.

I usually make my own sugar paste and gum paste and seldom buy pre-made sugar paste as it is cheaper and fun to make. Therefore in the class I decided to teach my students from mastering the fundamental basic till the finished product. Well my students in Penang did so well and had mastered the skill and techniques without difficulty, well they spend a whole day with me but I think it is worth it. :)

Well let me show you what we did during the class and in this session we used a 2 tier dummy cake make out of styrofoam.

Godiva Chocolatier Pavilion | Superb Gateux Kuala Lumpur !

I came to know about Godiva is through reading a post by a well known foodie named Jason. After reading his latest post on “” Chef At Home @ Tamarind, Sentul East” it makes me more wanting to visit Godiva as soon as possible. Chef At Home is a very young (21yo) and talented Chef as he had cooked a very simple and interesting 3-course meal for his guests on his birthday, as I was told by Jason on his blog. On knowning of his talent, my desire of wanting to see and taste his dessert creations had intensifiedly increased each day. Oh! by the way his named according to Jason’s post was Chef Jared.

White Chocolate Raspberry Square | Big Boys Oven Sweet Dessert

This is really funny, as I have been so into what I had been doing lately . . . . baking cakes created by top patissiers. You may be laughing at me crazily but I think it is so fun as it reminds me about building sand castle on the beach when I was young. Well a least this time, my bakes can be eaten rather swept away by the wild waves. Anyway this time I found yet another fantastic Austrian patissier who had been also a traveler himself. Over the years, he had proven himself repeatedly by winning many awards in various patisserie competitions and also being a judge in many different events. Well, I am referring to the amazing Master Chef Arno Urch.

PRINCE HOTEL AT IT’S BEST

Dim Sum originated from the Cantonese community custom and inextricably link to the Chinese tradition of ‘Yum Cha’ or Chinese drinking tea culture several centuries ago in China. It was then introduce to the west through Chinese immigrants especially during the 19th century.

To touch the heart means Dim Sum is a small tiny dish smaller than tapas is being created to serve as breakfast ny the houswives for their husbands. The ritual of indulging this Dim Sum comes with a delicious aroma tea pot of freshly brewed Chinese tea. The highlight of Dim Sum is their dumplings which is made with full of love, passion and care. Now Dim Sum is served throughout China and Hong Kong is a place famous for Dim Sum.

Dim Sum needs a lot of preparation work and as for Tai Zi Heen, the preparation was done a day ahead, according to Master Chef Ricky Thein. As for this month Tai Zi Heen will be showcasing the art of Dim Sum of Dim Sum Chef Loo Sai Wah which consist of a series of dainty and intricate yet innovative indulgences beyond your imagination.

Mango Cloud Chocolat Honey Cake | Big Boys Oven Sweet Dessert

I stumbled onto this recipe last weekend and found it to be really interesting and truely amazing. This recipe’s mango cloud is truely amazingly delicious. I know I did come across of this simlar mango cloud texture before . . . yes I had it at Dragon-i, this cloud texture is light and fluffy, just amazing to leave it in our mouth as it melts it’s way through into your system . . . just pure lovely. At Dragon-i, they have it in a size of a cloud bun, no flavouring added and filled with red bean fillings.

Wedding Cake Showcase | Prince Hotel

BIG BOYS OVEN WEDDING CAKES

This is a great news for myself and BigBoysOven, sure you may ask why and would like to know. Well we invited by Prince Hotel to showcase our wedding cake starting from this April 2009 at their hotel lobby. I myself was so excited and how fantastic this can be.

Therefore last week I created a three tier wedding cake and brought it over to the hotel on the weekend for the showcase. I did a simple one with butterflies and with orangy ribbons as the theme colour.

It was so excited upon my arrival at the hotel when I saw how beautiful the wedding display area was created by the hotel team. I also saw Carven Ong’s beautiful wedding gown and my wedding cake was placed next to it. read more »

Chocolate Cake with Cranberries and Raspberries Fillings

SIMPLE AND YET DELICIOUS

 I came across this lovely chocolate cake recipe of Chef Johnny Chan, a well known Hong Kong based pastry chef. He is known for his passion in pastry and his creative ideas , techniques and the use of ingredients. For my bake this time, I had used deliciously moist dried cranberries instead of black sweet cherries and raspberry jam to ehnaced the taste of the chocolate. It is a very simple recipe and yet an ideal to serve this to your guests on a special occasion. This cake can be served cool and even warm over a scoop of lovely and delicious vanilla ice-cream. I am sure you will give this wonderful recipe a try this weekend . . . . yours Sunny Yaw

Jerry & Pei Wern Wedding at KL Tower | A Flower Wedding Cake to Top The World

LONDON – SARAWAK – SITIAWAN – KUALA LUMPUR

Both Jerry and Pei Wern stayed in London and was back in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate their special wedding day at KL Tower in the city centre. End of last year Pei Wern email me to inquire about her wedding cake plus cupcakes too and the exploration of the most desired dessert began. At the end Pei Wern found what she wanted and we were hired. : )

Penang’s Finest Hokkien Dishes | Hock Chuan Heong Restaurant Reclaimed My Roots!

Looking at both of this photographs of Hock Chuan Heong Restaurant, it just reminded me of the black and white photographs taken during the 60’s & 70’s that I inherited from my dad. It was fully beautifully painted of his growing up and some were with my mum too, part of her young teen. I guessed it was the time dad courting mum, just lovely. Do you keep such treasures?

It was lovely to meet up with Lee Lee & Wee Kiet and to commission their wedding cake. We meet up at Star Buck Coffee and Lee Lee wanted a very simple 3tiers white wedding cake with handcrafted paper flowers and birds. Lee Lee adored the wedding cake and the wedding reception was held at Rahsia, KL.

When I am mad about you . . . . . I mad about pizza, how true can it be! can it be, I wonder? . . . . . I got to say when I mad about you, I will definitely not talking to you or even to call you . . . . . but if I am madly in love with you, I definitely want to hold you, even to caress you, I am sure you do! Do you? Well I am sure you too, just had this awesome experience on this Valentine’s Day which was just barely less than 24hours ago. I had an intrigging afternoon nap today, dosing off into my little dream land . . . . when I woke up it was already near to 8pm, wow! I was sure hungry and I wanted something simple and light, yet delicious. Pizza would be nice choice and MAD ABOUT PIZZA came into my play, yup it was true, Ken told me about his great discovery and experience at this eatery just recent(yesterday I think) and I wouldn’t mind to have a try.
