A restaurant that brings us the culinary masterpiece from Shanghai omce touted as the “Paris of the East” truly exciting. This stylish Shanghainese restaurant has it’s elegant in taste which stands out so well with comfort. It was beautifully decorated with classic looked. Easily at a glance of detailed carving of dragon and phoenix motifs on it furnitures while antique lacquered Chinese folding screens occupied as the centre piece of the dining room. Elegant and classic.

Shanghai, the restaurant itself is headed by two exciting and well experienced master chefs from Hong Kong, Chef Wong Wing Yeuk and dim sum Chef Kwok Kam Hung. Together, they have created more than 100 dishes that chowcase the vibrant and distinctive flavours of Shanghai.

During this time I was at Shanghai Restaurant to try out their exquiste hairy crabs. Autumn in China is the perfect season to indulge it’s fresh water hairy crabs as it is the time when the crabs are at their peak, most succulent and delicious. It is made available only from the ninth to eleventh months in the Chinese lunar calender. I was told here at Shanghai Restaurant, all the hairy crabs are specially flown in from Shanghai, China and awesome creation of dishes are served. Steamed Shanghainese Hairy Crab, Braised Superior Shark’s Fin Soup with Hairy Crab Meat and Roe, Fried Bamboo Fish Fillets with Hairy Crab Meat and Roe, Steamed Shanghainese Dumplings with Hairy Crab Meat and Roe, Sitr-Fried Flat Glass Noodle with Hairy Crab Meat and Roe and the dishes goes on . . . awesome dishes on the menu. Well thought and superbly crafted.

Berbuka Puasa with Chef Wan

A few of us was invited to Chef Wan’s penthouse in Ampang recently. We had a light meet up and catching up. If you may not know him, he is one of the top celebrity chef in the country and also abroad. He did almost uncounterable of cooking series and sometimes you could see him appearing in two TV station. He is funny and witty too, loved by many of his fans. In 2009 he won the world prestige award, Best Celebrity Television Chef in the World, beating 250 other celebrity chefs at the World Gourmand Cookbook Media Award (which is considered the Academy Awards for food and cookbook industry) held in Paris. He also bagged the Best in the World Cookbook award in the fundraising cookbook category for his book “Sajian Aidilfitri Bersama Chef Wan”.

Chef talked about his current show Best Wan aired on Asian Food Channel’s, a dynamic 10-part series. It was premiere on Tuesday, August 17th featuring his most popular Asian dishes. Chef himself talked about his easy to follow and yet delicious black pepper crab and also his irresistible Frangipane Pineapple Tarts.

He flew in from Paris, she was in Kuala Lumpur waiting. Both meet up and celebrated a fairy tale wedding. Nurfarissa a doctor by profession and Rushdan an engineer based in Paris. She was gorgeous and he was truly the prince on that night.

JAMUAN TEH MALAYSIAis an inaugural fundraising event jointly organised by Breast Cancer Welfare Association(BCWA) and National Cancer Society Malaysia(NCSM)was held at Prince Hotel Kuala Lumpur. This event is modeled after Australian’s Biggest Morning Tea, held annually by the Australian Cancer Council. Initaited by the Australian High Commission, Jamuan Teh was launched by Her Excellency Ms Penny Williams, Australia High Commissioner to Malaysia on the 13th August 2009.

Jamuan Teh Malaysia is an effort to raise funds for BCWA and NCSM to continue to offer their services to the public. The basic conscept of Jamuan Teh Malaysia is for any interested individuals, organisations, communities or schools to host a “Jamuan Teh” as a meansof raising funds for BCWA and NCSM. The host can organize the “Jamuan Teh” in whatever form they choose. The key component of course is that the guests will make a donation for the drinks or food served, which will be forwarded to BCWA and NSCM. It will be an opportunity for all Malaysians to come together as one in reachingout to those affected by cancer.
