Having to be invited and wait to taste the gourmet that is building up in the kitchen can be such mind blowing thing to do. “Will it be delicious or will it be a flop?”, I always ask myself when I am confronted with such dinner meet. I am truly not a good liar like some do, I just can’t smile and blow out the whistle of good news. Hence I learned the technique of conveying the not so good news in a good manner and work it out with the chefs and come out with a good solution. As for myself I just can’t hammer the badness of the food like some do. Some people thinks they have the right to talk bad in the public just because they pay for the food, to me I think they are bad people with just bad after taste.

As for me this time I travelled a bit further with a two and the half hours car drive at about an average of 80km/hour. Yes my first time out of Kuala Lumpur town for a food review. I was thrilled and excited about this trip. It had been some time now I wanted to try out his cooking, Chef Q (Khiew) at his restaurant Pau Loong Banquet Hall located at Teluk Intan. Amazing how one can be like myself will do, just due to the thrill of taste and the awesome goodness of food.

Sunny Yaw of Big Boys Oven at Ma am Restaurant Koh Samui

FOOD & TRAVEL – Only this year 2012 we managed to get some time off from work and decided to book ourself for a few days stay and escape to the island of Koh Samui. We flew with Berjaya Air which was an exciting experience and it took us about 2hours to reach our destination from the Subang Airport, Kuala Lumpur. On our second day stay we decided to take a trip round the island by using a rented motorcycle that was very affordable (RM20/day). We left our hotel at 10am and head to the west south of the island which was more a covered countryside, smaller roads, tranquil private beaches and resorts.

MED.@Marche-Live MIGF 2010

wall menu

One of my favourite restaurant in Kuala Lumpur would definitely be MED.@Marche-Live overseen by a rising and dashing good looking chef, Chef Paul Lewis. This talent of this Aussie chef can easily be spotted through his MIGF menu, it was a well crafted seven course feast with individual taste and unique experience. Together with it’s a modern chic spacious interior, my whole dining experience that night was amazing beautiful. It was truly impressive.

Chef Paul Lewis

Chef’s creations had amazed me all the time till even now. My last dining experience was four months back when this dashing good looking hunk chef arrived in Kuala Lumpur, that night was a superb dinner and for this current MIGF, he had his creation spot on. It was flavourful, simple and most, it was superbly tasty. One of his dish was the Brodetto that had kept me wanting more. It was truly exotically addictive and so pleasureable.

Last week we attended another Chinese New Year get together and this time we were at the famous Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant located at Capital Square, near by Dang Wangi KL. This is a great restaurant as it is always packed during office lunches during the weekdays and quiet a good crowd even for dinner. I got informed that this restaurant is famous for it’s roast duck and their main restaurant is located in London, therefore having to indulge it here in KL, it was truly awesome.

I was excited about this as I had not been able to get hold of such a dish in KL as not many places do offer such luxuriousity except one in Sungai Buluh.

You maybe wondering what some of us foodies will be doing this coming days. Well definitely we will be indulging the traditional spread of “Yee Sang”.

‘Ying-Yang Yee Sang’ (Tuna and Salmon Roulade)

“Yee Sang” or ” Lou Sang” had been ever popular in Malaysia since I was young and now it had been a norm in every Chinese New Year dinner, just awesome. This popular dish consist of variety of mixture of thinny sliced fruits, vegetables, crackers topped with sliced raw fish and drizzled with spices and sweet fruity sauce, I would say it is a typical salad but prepared in the chinese way.

This time Tai Zhi Heen offered the Tuna and Salmon Roulade “Yee Sang”, gorgeous I would place it. I was beautifully prepared, attracive colours.

If you want to have a bowl of a tip top broth, I would recommend you to order a bowl from Tai Zhi Heen, I had one and it was superb! It was the well double boiled superior broth that made it so special and delicious. Here, the broth was presented in a attractive golden in colour. The taste was done to excellent, while the fish maw was soft and tender, just perfect.
