Chinese New Year Celebration Grand Imperial One Utama

Yee Sang
Yee Sang at Grand Imperial Restaurant

This year 2011, I had yet another awesome Chinese New Year celebration with awesome spectecular “Yee Sang” ( I always call this dish the Chinese New Year Salad Toss). We meet at Grand Imperial Restaurant at One Utama and we started off with the amazing delicious Sliced Smoked Breast Duck Yee Sang.

Slices of Smoked Duck Breast

This Sliced Smoked Breast Duck Yee Sang was truly unique, something very delightful and interesting. It infused the whole Yee Sang dish with strong bursting flavours. I liked it as it was something new with a twist of western influence. I truly recommend this if you are dining here this Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year Celebration House of Tang Bangsar

House of Tang

We arrived on time for dinner, this time location was Bangsar and indeed I was impressed with the facade of this restaurant, a modern chic and yet trendy. It was located along a row of semi-d trendy restaurants which offering it’s own unique cuisine. That night we dine at The House of Tang which offers a wide range of Chinese home cooking cuisine. The place was beautiful as the garden was so well maintained and so was with the interior, elegant.

Restaurant De Hunan

I was introduced to this Hunan Restaurant by Chef Steven and was told that the dishes served here is gorgeous. I was told it is a must order for the Mao’s Pork and also the steam fish head with salted red chillies. So what I did? I step into this gorgeous eatery.

I had tasted Mao’s Pork when I visited Mao’s Restaurant in Beijing. This Mao’s Pork dish in Beijing tasted very different from what we usually get in Kuala Lumpur. It taste so soft, tasty and so succulent. Lovely! When I was at this eatery, firstly we were served with some unique tibits:

Seaweed Pickle

Lotus Root Pickle

Yummy thin slices Pig Ears

3 plates of tibits to start off with which is so delicious.

A lovely bowl of steam rice.

A skewered prawn top with black bean paste, lovely. Here we get bigger prawns but in Beijing the prawn is so micro small, lol!

“Lat Chee Kai” Hot Peppered Chilli Chicken

OMG! Mao’s Pork….authentic lovely! A must for Porkie lovers!

Pig’s Tail Claypot….. very delicious and with a touch of hot!

Oh! Lovely Hot Fish Head….. a must for hot lovers… “just like chasing the dragon”

Emperor noodles to be eaten with the fish head gravy…. fantastic!

If you are a porkie and also a fan of hot hot food, this is a place to be! Beijing on your doorstep!.

Pickled Lotus Root

This is a very simple dish, yet delicious, very refreshing and suitable to endulge before starting having your dinner. This delicate dish is called pickled lotus root. All you need is some fine shreaded lotus root, washed and cleaned. Marinated it in salt for 5 minutes and wash off the salt. The marinate the shredded lotus roots with sugar, a bit of vinegar and lots of lemon juice ( if you like spice, you can put some fresh chillies)

Once ready you will notice that the shredded lotus root taste crunchy and with a hint of lychee taste. The next coming post, I will post my latest creation, mini Buddha jump over the wall (mini futt till cheong). So see you soon.

From myself, Steven Cheng
