At recent I attended a tasting event at Dragon-i, the guests included myself were showered with delicious gourmet. We were well seated and we kept busy with fresh fruit juices and Chinese tea while a huge colourful platter of ‘Yee Sang’ appeared right infront of us ready to be indulged. Got to confess, my main hard to resist mission was to smack lip myself into their famous treasure pot. This time I was informed that we were going to try out their Signature Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot which cost RM688++ that came with a mixture of the most exquisite quality Chinese foods available, including 6-heads braised premium Australian Abalones, premium Japanese Sea Cucumber, authentic shark’s fin, premium Japanese dried scallops, specially selected fish belly, premium fish maw and twelve more quality ingredients, filled with Dragon-i’s signature broth. It was totally a gastronomical indulgence, heaven to me.

Dining at the Chinese here in Kuala Lumpur can be so easily sorted but finding a good one can be a slight task. But here I am having a fantastic and wonderful time indulging a fabulous Chinese gourmet with one of Malaysia most famous food writer Tan Bee Hong, photographer Khoo Su Ting and owner of Four Seas Edward Soo. The first dish the Smoke Duck itself did all the introduction. Smells good. Tasted so brilliant. Got me excited Got us all excitedly with such a bundle of joy. Pink. It was pink. I can’t imagine the smoked duck was slow baked over mustard, garlic and honey. It was such a beauty. . . . . soft in texture, intense with flavours. We were left raving for more. Definitely a must have dish if you are planning to dine here.

It was an awesome night as a bunch of us got a glimpse to experience a barbeque feast at Bar.B.Q which where definitely an great fun with a delicate taste. We got to experience their Supreme Pork Set and also the Supereme Beef Set. The place was spacious and when we were there, the place was nearly full and our food excursion at Bar.B.Q that night was amazing fabulous.

The deeper we looked, we make a fabulous discovery not far from Moon Sing Restaurant. Hidden truly inside at the corner of a housing estate we found Wan Jia Restaurant at Taman Wangsa Permai. I was told that this restaurant had been operating for nearly to 6 years now and still going on very well. The food I had was truly well polish with delight, it was jewel to me personally. My discovery was truly worth every dollar that we paid on that evening.

Deep Fried Bentong Ginger and Frog Meat was astonishing exciting and delicious. The meat was really fresh, juicy, meaty too and crisp on the outside. I discovered that this dish was accompanied with to die for, crispy and delicious Bentong ginger chips. It was really good. It is a must have dish. Unique and deliciously yet different. Full of simplicity.

This is awesome as I started my “Lou Sang” really early. It was fabulous indeed! Lovely texture, taste and what’s more, a joyful company.

This year lunar New Year or we called it the Spring Festival falls on 3rd February 2011 and I get to try a spendid repertoire of fabulous fare at The Emperor, Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel. While I was there I managed to glance through their auspicious special Lunar New Year menu ranging from light mouthwatering Steamed Scallop Roll with Black Bean Sauce, Dried Scallop Siew Mai for Dim Sum to delectable Abalone Bamboo Pith Roll with Sea Cucumber and Stewed Supreme Dried Seafood Platter.

Every Lunar New Year celebration would not be complete without the tradisional toss of prosperity. Gather the clan and every close friends together is a must and “Lou Hei” to a year filled with health, wealth and prosperity with a refreshing presentation of Yee Sang. This is what I did on that day! “Lou Sang” We had Four Seasons Prosperity “Yee Sang” which came with Butter Fish, Salmon, Tuna & Jelly Fish. Truly Auspicious!

Having a refine Shangainese dinner at the Shanghai Restaurant at JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur can be an superb experience filled with taste and flavours. A restaurant that brings us the culinary masterpiece from Shanghai omce touted as the “Paris of the East” truly exciting. This stylish Shanghainese restaurant has it’s elegant in taste which stands out so well with comfort. It was beautifully decorated with classic looked. Easily at a glance of detailed carving of dragon and phoenix motifs on it furnitures while antique lacquered Chinese folding screens occupied as the centre piece of the dining room. Elegant and classic.

Shanghai, the restaurant itself is headed by two exciting and well experienced master chefs from Hong Kong, Chef Wong Wing Yeuk and dim sum Chef Kwok Kam Hung. Together, they have created more than 100 dishes that chowcase the vibrant and distinctive flavours of Shanghai.

During this time I was at Shanghai Restaurant to try out their exquiste hairy crabs. Autumn in China is the perfect season to indulge it’s fresh water hairy crabs as it is the time when the crabs are at their peak, most succulent and delicious. It is made available only from the ninth to eleventh months in the Chinese lunar calender. I was told here at Shanghai Restaurant, all the hairy crabs are specially flown in from Shanghai, China and awesome creation of dishes are served. Steamed Shanghainese Hairy Crab, Braised Superior Shark’s Fin Soup with Hairy Crab Meat and Roe, Fried Bamboo Fish Fillets with Hairy Crab Meat and Roe, Steamed Shanghainese Dumplings with Hairy Crab Meat and Roe, Sitr-Fried Flat Glass Noodle with Hairy Crab Meat and Roe and the dishes goes on . . . awesome dishes on the menu. Well thought and superbly crafted.

In Pavilion Kuala Lumpur yet another new outlet of Din Tai Fung can be found that provides a bursting flavours of Taiwanese cuisine such as their addictive Xiao Long Bao, something that I can’t get it out of my mind. The food served here is strictly of quality check as to maintain a tip top delicious meal for it’s diners.

Flavors Restaurant is not new to me and I had been quiet a frequent here. This time I had tasted their perennial “Yee Sang”, besides that they are serving the Prosperity Buffet Dinner too. I was lucky as get to taste their drlight dishes such as Steamed Chicken with Arrow Root, “Pei pah” Roasted Duck, a variety of Dim Sum, Deep Fried “Nien Koh”, Fish Stomach with Dried Oyster in Superior Sauce and not forgetting Braised Black mushroom, Dried Oysters and “Tau Kan” on a bed of Fatt Choy.

Having to see Yee Sang table was really exciting and I was told that a variety of variation of Yee Sang is being offered, Jellyfish Yee Sang, Seasoned Scallop Finger Yee Sang, Salmon Yee Sang, and Australian Abalone Yee Sang, nice! The sauce offered at Flavors contained of Ribena, Lemon, Apricot Jam and an undisclosed ingredient, all available starting form the price RM38++ onwards.
