A Private Dinner with Chef Roy Wong of Kim Ma

private dinner with Chef Roy Wong at Kim Ma
Master Chef Roy Wong & Ms Aemy Wong

When I received the call to be there for dinner with Chef Roy Wong at Kim Ma, I was left truly excited. It was a dinner that we had planned and was not excuted due to each other’s busy schedule. Well my confession, I usually don’t get much to dine with fabulous Master Chef themselves except attending formal invited dinners and most of time there are not private. That Saturday evening it was a table only for the four of us, with my eating buddy Cleo Chia, Aemy Wong (sister of our famous local actress Aenie Wong), myself and Chef Roy who was in and out of the kitchen cooking for the restaurant customers and us.

Appetizers – Spicy “Mok Yee” Black Fungus & Crispy Spiced Japanese Cucumber

Located in Sunway Mentari where I found this awesome restaurant that serves spice and hot dishes called Yue Yang Lou. As we were seated at the table came right away the mouth teasing Chinese tapas. Spicy “Mok Yee” Black Fungus was placed cheerfully right infront of me while the Crispy Spiced Japanese Cucumber tucked safely beside me. I go to say both was such a seductress, crunchy black fungus and crispy yet juicy cucumber.

QUINTESSENTIALLY CANTONESE | ATRIUM CAFÉ, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa

Pyramid Tower Hotel’s Atrium Café presents a perennial favourite in Chinese cuisine.  “Quintessentially Cantonese” takes the spotlight within its daily buffet dinner from 2 to 16 March 2009.

Deriving their cue from the Canton region, Atrium Café’s chefs draw upon a diversity of ingredients which are incorporated into cooking styles that preserve the freshness and natural flavour of the food. Begin the palatable feast with steaming bowls of time-honoured “Old Fire-Cooked Soups” as it is known in Cantonese. The soup owes its name to its cooking style which entails slow-cooking over mild fire for several hours until a deliciously tempting aroma is yielded. A common Cantonese practice to consume soup before a meal, relish four piping hot choices; Double-Boiled “Kok Choi” and Goby Fish Soup with Honey Dates, Double-Boiled Pumpkin Chicken Soup with Dried Oyster and White Fungus, Double-Boiled Winter Melon Chicken Broth with Dried Scallop and Mushroom and Double-Boiled Water Crest Soup with Two Types of Almonds.

Seng Kee Stall, Hor Hee Noodle, Canning Garden, Ipoh

Gosh, there are so many lovely and delicious food in Ipoh and for example, “Hor Hee” noodle. There are a few stalls selling this typs of noodle in Ipoh but Seng Kee noodle stall is one of the oldest. As I can remember, it started before I was borned and so to say it is at least more than 30 odd years. It is a stall started from father to sons and daughter. The stall sells at Jalan Lahat, opposite ACS school during weekdays and in Canning Garden during sunday. What is “Hor Hee” noodle? well basically it is a fish soup based noodle with fish balls and fish paste block. The fish ball skin is crunchy as they are dried under the sun and the fish paste blocks are deep fried.

Lovely, deliciously deep fried fish paste block.

Tasty and crunchy fish balls

I truly love this noodle as it had been around for so many years and still going strong, thats shows how deliciously they are. It had been part of my growing up, mum like them too.

Love Sidney
