HOUSE OF SEAFOOD AT 180 – SINGAPORE BEST BIG CRAB

Having to arrive in Singapore is fantastic but the journey was another issue, fly with budget airline can be an interesting experience as you may end up not paying a low fare trip, but instead an expensive flight as there maybe rather a few of hidden and unknown cost. Well I will talk about this on my coming post. I would inform that I am safely here and enjoying every minute of my stay, that is the reason why you are reading this post, . . . . Singapore is fabulous!

It was three weeks before the wedding a very close friend of ours Ann called, wanting me to design her brother’s wedding cupcakes as a wedding gift. With the speed of ligthing, she emailed me the wedding photos and insisted to have the wedding cake topper too! So this time I had them designed in yellow champagne colour and handmade roses as the theme and keep them simple,  used the cake topper as the centre of attraction for that day.

MADAGASCAR CHOCOLATE VANILLA OLIVE CAKE | BIG BOYS OVEN SWEET DESSERT

We had a great time baking and meeting new friends in Johor Bahru (JB). We had 3 sets of baking on the first day instead of two by request and at the end all of us got into being a zombie . . . . yeah, we were so tired and went straight to our bunker!

There were a lot of changes in the Johor Bahru scenery, lots of new roads and new buildings as for food, I would amazingly say, just amazing, just delicious, just awesome!. We had loads of Italian food, you just can’t imagine, just pure lovely, perfect pasta and drooling pizza. We had japanese too, outstanding flavours, fresh shashimi, truely teppanyaki of a whole squid, unagi maki, tempura, not forgetting the garlic fried rice and flushed down with a few cup of rejunevating cooling green tea.

Another exciting menu we had, it was the Bak Kut Teh flushed within the Johor Bahru downtown scene, it was totally amazing delicious. Yet another exciting meal we had was the beef noodle and also the stewed duckling noodle, both amazingly delicious, something not to be missed and I will defintely post about them this coming weeks.

And as for today, I am going to share my delicious discovery of baking, a chocolate vanilla olive oil cake and a recipe by a modest, loyal, good looking and a winning pastry chef himself, Chef Ronny Leung from the famous Hong Kong Club.

CHARCOAL BAMBOO ROULEAU | BIG BOYS OVEN SWEET DESSERT

Tonight, I dreamt of being famous and having my own fan club . . . . but in fact I don’t have one! I guess I am not famous, just normal compared to some . . . . . . what can I do as I don’t have fans. I guess I can’t when I can’t even afford the best wine in town, and how can I even afford having bottles of champagne but I do enjoy the present of caviar. Holding private parties at my humble residence were just an illusion. Do you think I deserve having my own fan club?

I guess as for now I don’t need one as I can’t afford to have one but it will be fun to have one in time, but will you be my fans?Maybe for now I can only afford to have some bamboo charcoal. Well, don’t under estimate the bamboo charcoal as it can do so much amazing things and miracles. It has a strong absorption of toxin which helps to remove waste in our system. I was told it able to strenghten our bowel movement and improves the digestion of food. Bamboo charcoal infact promotes health and improves liveliness. I am sure you have seen bammboo charcoal being used in breads but I decided to make some rouleau with it and here is the recipe that I would love to share with you, charcoal bamboo rouleau.

Wedding Cake Showcase II by Sunny Yaw | Prince Hotel

I had been waiting for a day like this, a day with full of joy and happiness, most importantly being myself, honest, standing by with my believes and a wonderful feelings. I never ever thought myself that BBO can survive that long and yet we are about to enter into our two years on bloging and BBO still going on strong each day with new refreshing ideas to showcase and self reinventing. JOY is the best describe word about my feelings at this moment and I am also excited knowing what is going to install for me and BBO in this couple of months, just purely exciting but will let you know one by one real soon. :)

The Wild Boar & Pig Pig’s Wedding | Cambridge – Kuala Lumpur

Last December I had recieved an email from Pig Pig wanting Big Boys Oven to commision her wedding cake and without any hesitation, I agreed. Pig Pig wanted a memorable wedding and had picked a theme for her wedding reception, it was “Shanghai Night”. I had about 4 months to prepare the wedding cake and I requested Pig Pig and Wild Boar to search for their perfect wedding cake design which they might loved to have.

Mango Cloud Chocolat Honey Cake | Big Boys Oven Sweet Dessert

I stumbled onto this recipe last weekend and found it to be really interesting and truely amazing. This recipe’s mango cloud is truely amazingly delicious. I know I did come across of this simlar mango cloud texture before . . . yes I had it at Dragon-i, this cloud texture is light and fluffy, just amazing to leave it in our mouth as it melts it’s way through into your system . . . just pure lovely. At Dragon-i, they have it in a size of a cloud bun, no flavouring added and filled with red bean fillings.

Wedding Cake Showcase | Prince Hotel

BIG BOYS OVEN WEDDING CAKES

This is a great news for myself and BigBoysOven, sure you may ask why and would like to know. Well we invited by Prince Hotel to showcase our wedding cake starting from this April 2009 at their hotel lobby. I myself was so excited and how fantastic this can be.

Therefore last week I created a three tier wedding cake and brought it over to the hotel on the weekend for the showcase. I did a simple one with butterflies and with orangy ribbons as the theme colour.

It was so excited upon my arrival at the hotel when I saw how beautiful the wedding display area was created by the hotel team. I also saw Carven Ong’s beautiful wedding gown and my wedding cake was placed next to it. read more »

In February I got a call from Diyana and she requested me to get over to her place urgently as she needed me to assist her on her coming project at SOFIRA. I meet Diyana and Sofia at the studio that same day. They wanted BIGBOYSOVEN to bake lots of macarons, yes loads of them. Yes it was definitely exciting and fun too as  request was  to commission 1.000 pieces of macarons for  SOFIRA new line collection fashion show. The request was simple and yet elegant, coral and pink macarons filled with loads of white chocolate ganache.

Chocolate Cake with Cranberries and Raspberries Fillings

SIMPLE AND YET DELICIOUS

 I came across this lovely chocolate cake recipe of Chef Johnny Chan, a well known Hong Kong based pastry chef. He is known for his passion in pastry and his creative ideas , techniques and the use of ingredients. For my bake this time, I had used deliciously moist dried cranberries instead of black sweet cherries and raspberry jam to ehnaced the taste of the chocolate. It is a very simple recipe and yet an ideal to serve this to your guests on a special occasion. This cake can be served cool and even warm over a scoop of lovely and delicious vanilla ice-cream. I am sure you will give this wonderful recipe a try this weekend . . . . yours Sunny Yaw

Jerry & Pei Wern Wedding at KL Tower | A Flower Wedding Cake to Top The World

LONDON – SARAWAK – SITIAWAN – KUALA LUMPUR

Both Jerry and Pei Wern stayed in London and was back in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate their special wedding day at KL Tower in the city centre. End of last year Pei Wern email me to inquire about her wedding cake plus cupcakes too and the exploration of the most desired dessert began. At the end Pei Wern found what she wanted and we were hired. : )
