The Resort Café Unveils A New And Dedicated Middle East A La Carte Menu, Taking Diners Through A Rich Culinary Journey

Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa’s Resident Middle Eastern Cuisine Chef Ala’a Ali Ansawi has created an extensive Middle Eastern menu featuring over 35 authentic flavours. The new a la carte menu was unveiled at a Dinner Showcase to invited guests consisting of Ambassadors and Senior Personnel from the Middle Eastern Embassies in Kuala Lumpur

The Resort Café at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa continues to entice diners with the unveiling of its new and dedicated Middle East a la carte menu featuring over 35 authentic dishes from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Lebanon, Syrian, Jordan, Egypt and the Emirates, encapsulating a diverse food journey in the “Treasures of the Middle East” menu, available daily for lunch and dinner. The A La Carte menu, consisting of Chef Ala’a Ali Ansawi, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa’s Resident Middle Eastern Cuisine Chef speciality dishes was introduced at a special Chef’s Dinner Showcase at The Resort Café with invited guests from the various Middle Eastern Embassies in Kuala Lumpur.

The Jordanian Chef, fondly known as Ala’a Habibi for his jolly and lovable nature brings over 20 years of experience and cooking techniques in Middle Eastern cuisine which he now introduces and applies into the new “Treasures of the Middle East” menu. His approach to Middle Eastern cuisine is simple; keeping each dish fresh and authentic. The aim is also to transform the preconceived notion and educate diners to the diverse flavours of the Middle Eastern dishes, as well as to introduce a more adventurous, fun and nostalgic twists to the dishes served at The Resort Café; drawing inspirations from his travels and exposures to the varied culinary cultures and food traditions of the region.

TREASURES OF THE MIDDLE EAST – A LA CARTE MENU

The selection of Middle East dishes in the new menu starts with an assortment of Mezzeh, a variety of small dishes which is traditionally served at the beginning of large meals. The must-have selections include the Lebanese Tabbouleh of finely chopped Parsley mixed with chopped Tomato, Burghul and marinated with Olive Oil and Lemon, Turkish Warab Enab which are stuffed Vine Leaf with Rice, Tomato and Parsley and the Lebanese Hummus of Chickpea Blended with Tahini and Lemon. Diners can also look forward to the Mankosha Za’atar, Cheese Mankosha and Lamb Mankosha from Lebanon, Chicken Wings Motafa from Syria and Falafel from Jordan which are available under the hot Mezzeh selection.

The main dishes in the menu feature nine signature favourites, which recipes were further enhanced by Chef Ala’a. He used an abundance of fresh vegetables, herbs, spices, finest cuts of meats and seafood and seasonal produce bringing together a symphony of flavours, colours and textures. The portions are ideal for sharing and many dishes are served in platters.

Diners can indulge in the Saudi Chicken Kabsa, a staple rice dish from Saudi Arabia cooked with tomato, dried lemon and special kabsa spice which are a mixture of 15 different spices including cinnamon, cumin, coriander, cardamom and ginger for an aromatic and flavourful dish, topped with spring chicken. Seafood enthusiasts will be in for a treat with the Emirati Seafood Salona, a flavourful dish consisting of tiger prawns, calamari, lobster and mussel stewed with Emirati spices and served with white rice. A must-have dish is the Iranian Mixed Grill, a platter of marinated chicken, beef, lamb chop, lamb tikka and shrimps grilled on skewers, served with Iranian saffron rice, dill rice, Persian yogurt and cucumber dip for a truly authentic and satisfying meal. Other main dishes on the menu include Grilled Kuwaiti Seafood, Egyptian Kushari, Iraqi Shawarma, Lebanese Shish Taouk, Turkish Kastaleta and the Palestinian Bamia Stew. For desserts and beverages, diners can indulge in delicacies like Baklava, Saffron Mahalabiya, Aish Al Saraya and Basbousa; savour the desserts with beverage selections like Khaleeji coffee, Moroccan mint tea, Saffron tea and Turkish coffee.

The a la carte menu is available daily from 11.00am to 11.00pm at The Resort Café and also offered to Hotel guests in the in-room dining menu.

The Resort Café’s abundant spread of flavours also includes a dedicated section featuring the Treasures of the Middle East. During breakfast, lunch and dinner, diners can expect a wide range of Mezzeh to kick-start the meal such as olives, pickles, an assortment of Cyprus cheese, a variety of baked dough and more. Chef Ala’a’s signature Shawarma dish of shaved meat and vegetables wrapped in pita bread is served to diners a la minute in the restaurant’s bustling open-exhibition kitchen straight from the meat rotating spit, which diners can then enjoy it fresh and hot. The main Middle East dishes on the rotational buffet spread consists of six (6) selections during each meal period. Some of the rich sampling of Middle East favourites that diners can indulge in includes the Green Pea Stew, Freekeh, Shrimp Salona, Moussaka and Fish Harra just to name a few.
