In December I was invited to Colonial Café at Majestic Hotel to indulge their New Year Eve Dinner where I had a fabulous time over food, drink and brilliant conversation. All this thank to Chef Ganesan the masterchef of the Colonial Café. Every dish was perfectly well thought of dishes that brought on terrific smile on every guests that night.
COLD STARTER – Atlantic Smoked Salmon Roulade with Cream Cheese Wild Rocket Pesto
As usual Colonial Café house the best classic interior and host the most perfect backdrop for a stunning lunch and dinner. A white table cloth dining table truly caught me with great joy especially this time I am here for a luxurious dining over food and fantastic wine. It was a fabulous treat. How can one not to noticed the house smoked Atlantic salmon rolled with delicious cream cheese and chives while wild rocket pesto enhanced the tasting palate. It was a real jewel to begin, tenderly soft refreshing piece of naked salmon that played well with my tasting, very seductive indeed. The cream cheese texture was the right pairing that created a bursting texture. Simple yet delicious. While biting into the smoked salmon, I comfortly had a few sipping of the Baron Gassier Cotes de Provence Rose 2013 which was brilliant in taste with a hint of peach and cherry. A very soft, fruity and a touch of citrus likeable wine.

HOT STARTER – Maine Lobster Cake with Creamy Spinach, Poached Egg and Crustacean Foam
For something warm we had a generous delicious Maine lobster cake sitting under a creamy spinach and topped over a poached egg and finished off with a crustacean foam. I was alarming delighted with the refined texture and taste of the lobster cake. The crusty skin on the outside balanced well with the inside, soft and fluffy in texture. The play having the poached egg truly moist the lobster cake with its running egg yolk. I was impressed with this entrée. A very refreshing citrusy William Fevre Chablis 2012 was presented with this dish and the combination was brilliant. love the present of light lemon and the hints of pineapple and passionfruit lured me of wanting more.
SORBET – Blood Orange Infused with French Vanilla Tea
As to clean our palate we had a lovely looking blood orange infused with French vanilla tea. It was intense with flavour, definitely very likeable and left my palate taste refreshing.
MAINS – Beef Rossini Classic Beef Tournedos with Foie Gras, Toasted Brioche & Winter Truffle Jus
The heavy weights came to the table elegantly and I was truly excited upon knowing that the Beef Rossini Classic Beef Tournedos with Foie Gras will be served. I cut myself a nice thick slice of the beef, forked it with foie gras and laced with truffle jus, was exciting to bite into. It was just stunning. I had mine medium rare, it was soft and flawlessly crafted. This dish was brilliantly paired with a South Australian red, Zema Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 that had a hint of dark cherry and the present of dark chocolate. It was exciting and very fulfilling indeed.

Pan-Fried Spiced Cod with Crushed Masala Potatoes, Coconut Turmeric and Ginger Sauce
It was my night as I got to taste two mains and the cod was just so brilliantly executed. The Pan-Fried Spiced Cod with Crushed Masala Potatoes, Coconut Turmeric and Ginger Sauce was exciting to have, the cod was had a nice crisp on the outside and yet the moisture and tenderness of the meat was retained inside. the texture was brilliant, while the coconut turmeric and ginger sauce worked perfectly and jived brilliantly on the spot. A glass of Grant Burge Barossa Chardonnay 2013 paired so well and I managed to have another glass on the house. Just stunning.

PUDDING – Christmas Pudding Topped with White Chocolate Ice Cream with Strawberries and Fresh Mango – Harveys Bristol Cream
As for dessert we had the Christmas Pudding and it tasted brilliantly. I truly miss a good pudding and I had my craving satisfied that night. The white chocolate ice cream was a good pairing and the present of the strawberries and fresh mango were very refreshing. Truly a beautiful dessert.
