My recent tasting was at newly established Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert, located at One Utama New Wing. The few of us foodies took charge that night and we had a fabulous time indulging a list of delicious affordable Chinese food.
As we were seated with comfort, a plate of Salmon Skin with Chicken Floss was set right in front of me. I grab a piece and it just came so crispy and light sweet flavoured with wholesome chicken floss. It was a great strat to our dinner.
Our drink came swiftly and my sweet sour hinted Green Lime with Plum Juice was a sure thirst quencher. It was delicious and I got to admit it was addictive. I have two of them that night. My neighbour seated next to me too raved about her Lychee Peppermint.
Their Snowy Char Siew Bao was really delicious, the bao was very soft and fluffy. The Char Siew filling was perfect and the cookie topping too gave a hint of crisp to my biting. I truly enjoyed this snack.
Next came the Hong Kong Carrot Cake, a steamed daikon with rice flour cake tasted really good especially each of the carrot cake was given a light seared. It was nice and fragrant.
Oh I am a Siew Mai fan and here at Sheng Kee, it did not fail to impress me. I liked the texture and having it dipped into some chili sauce, it worked brilliantly.
Our Fun Cheong topped with Minced Pork was sure a pleaser. The fresh steamed rice noodle was soft and warm, matched well with the topping. This dish definitely work well with my tasting palate.
I love my Mui Choy dish as it always paired well with a bowl of white rice. Here I was put onto the test and I started with a pinch and within a few minutes the whole dish just make its disappearing act, sad it was all cleaned up. Everyone just stood still wanting more. I laugh aloud. The braised pork belly was good too as it came with layer of lean and fats. Lovely.
I had a taste of the Chicken Chinese Sausage Mushroom Rice, the portion was good and I love the topping more than the white rice. Yup I am cutting my carbo. The chicken, Chinese sausage and mushroom were well marinated and steamed to the right heat and duration. The outcome was a nice tender chicken meat and tasty sauce.
The Braised Beef and Tendon Noodle was good to have too. I am a fan of beef tendon and it was done to my liking. The beef was tender too, I am sure it had a long braising.
The Hong Kong Char Siew Wanton Noodle stood well, I like the wanton noodle, crisp and had a nice crunchy texture. The accompanied dumplings was very sizeable and tasted good.
The Yolk Custard Bao was delightful to have. The custard just ozzed out from the bao when I gave it a bite. Lovely.
Yuen Yang Paste, a mixture of almond and black sesame paste came as a good dessert. The taste was subtle and suited my taste well.
The meal ended with Sheng Kee Mango Pomelo Sago with truly caught me with a smile, dense mango puree topped with pomelo rinds and sago played well and I know I will be back here for another good game.
