Last night I was back at my favourite Chinese restaurant Mei Six Hin for another round of fabulous gourmet, a huge red sea grouper cooked four ways. The red sea grouper weighted about 6kg and I got to admit it was pretty huge. The four dishes created by Chef Steven was just stunning and delicious that suited well for us, nine adults and two kids.
The texture of the meat was firm and had a great biting texture when cooked. The head and bone was transformed into an exclusive soup while the tail end meat was perfect steamed. The steak was ingeniously pan seared while the middle lower part was given a deep fried. I was astonished by Chef Steven that he had infused four different cooking techniques into preparing this awesome whole red sea grouper: double boiled, steamed, pan seared and deep fried.
The cost for this red sea grouper is RM120/kg inclusive of all four cooking and I think it is worth to have such pampering as for ten person works out about RM72/pax. To start the dinner the double boiled red sea grouper graced the table in a huge Chinese ceramic serving soup bowl with such a delight. The bowl was jammed packed with well double boiled pan seared fish head, bones and Chinese herbs, red dates, dry sugar cane etc. The soup was cooked well and taste brilliantly sweet and refreshing. I am sure it contained of full nutritious element and values. I had two bowls all by myself, it was just brilliant and just warmed me up. A must have!
The next dish was just as exciting as the first one, just gorgeous gazed over my eyes making eating so fun and luxurious. Chef Steven had cleverly sliced the meat at the end tail rolled it with sweet pea and gave it a sweating steam and finished it of with a flood of thicken Chinese brown sauce. It was such an eye pleasing piece of edible art that came stylishly. I was amazed.
Next to follow up was this pan seared red sea grouper steak coated with honey lemon sauce. The sauce itself was really tasty and paired well with the grouper fillet and gave the whole dish a super boast. For me I have a great preference to go for the must well seared piece as it taste and smell brilliant. My piece was mind blowing and it managed to foreplaying with my tasting palate. Sexy and seductress that is how I would put it !
Thick cut of sliced red sea grouper here were given a golden crisp fried and was given a nice dash of mayomint. The grouper slice tasted brilliantly crisp, good firm biting texture and great creamy sweet minty taste to go with it. I also found delicious fried spinach leafs and hidden away a cold fruit salad.
We also had a plate of Chef’s specialty, Szechuan Pepper Chicken that was refinely delicious and a braised noodle to finish of the evening. The red sea grouper dining experience was just splendid, I loved it !
