To Mum, with Love; Young Chefs’ creative presentation for Mummy!
In conjunction with Mother’s Day, the Young Chef Competition was held for the third year running. This fun and exciting cooking competition enables young talents to prepare and decorate goodies for Mummy with their creative flair. The competition is open to Kinder Cooks who are 3-6 years old and Junior Chefs who are 7-11 years old.
The objectives of the competition are multi-fold – to inculcate the value of gratitude to their mothers among young children, besides encouraging close bonding between Mum and child through the activities, it also aims to promote creative skills among young children. What better way to express love for their mum then by presenting them with a special culinary gift created by the kids themselves?
The event also witnessed participation from children from an orphanage home, the Charis Home as well as Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home from Petaling Jaya. A total of 25 children were sponsored by the Hotel to take part in the competition.
‘Corporate Social Responsibility has always been an important part of the Eastin culture that we nurture among our staff members. It is very rewarding indeed to be able to spread joy to these children on a very special day like Mother’s Day “said Alan Chong, the Director of Food & Beverages.
Artistic ‘Giant’ cookies were decorated by the Kinder Cooks and the Napolean fruit slice were created by the Junior Chefs. Four winners for each category from both semifinals on the 4th and 10th May advanced to the grand finals on 11th May 2014. The Grand Final on Mother’s Day witnessed the talented young chefs preparing an open-faced Kiddy Sandwich for the Queen of their Hearts! The competition was filled with fun and laughter but also seriousness from the little ones in finishing the task in hand.
