SUNWAY GIVES BACK – Celebrating its 40th anniversary with the community
It’s Sunway Group’s 40th anniversary and the communities it built are receiving the gift of Sunway Pals loyalty programme that offers savings and rewards to its supportive customers, as a gesture of appreciation. And I was there to witness the launch at Sunway Pyramid.
The auspicious celebrations are made even more meaningful with the presence of special guests who have been with Sunway from the start. The first “baby” born back on 1 December 1999 at Sunway Medical Centre, 15-year-old Ahmad Sharifi Sharidan and his parents are attending the event. Also present are a two-generation Sunway-educated family made up of students from the first batch of Sunway College, Adrian Ooi and Adelaine Teoh and their children. They have grown to a family with four children. Eldest son, Aaron, 18, is doing his second year at Monash University Malaysia while their 15-year-old son, Alvin, is enrolled in Year 11 at Sunway International School (SIS).
Adrian Ooi said, “In those days, when I enrolled at Sunway College, it was because I had confidence in the Sungei Way (now, Sunway) Group back then. Now, it is because Sunway has reached a certain standard that we can have confidence in the quality of education it provides.”
Others who are attending are Mohd Yazair B Razali from Dengkil, Sepang, who is the first Sunway Lagoon Fun Card member. He has been bringing his family comprising his four children to Sunway Lagoon regularly since 2005 as he finds Sunway Lagoon the best place to spend time with his family. Also attending are Zambri Bin Idris, the first employee of Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa who has been with the hotel since it opened in 1996.
Sunway Property’s property purchaser, Mary Lee who was recommended to purchase a property in Sunway South Quay by her son who is a medical student at Monash University when he saw it across his campus. Ms Lee is one of the most ardent supporters of Sunway Property, will also be present with her husband. Also attending are the first tenants of Sunway Pyramid; Royal Selangor, PK Time and Giordano, who have been with the mall since it opened in 1997. All these guests will be recognised for their loyalty at the event and will receive personalized, pre-loaded cards.
The launch of the card today is timely and consistent with its anniversary theme, “Sunway, A Part of You” as it pays tribute to customers and stakeholders who have supported the growth of Sunway Group in the last 40 years from a small tin-mining company in 1974 to a diversified conglomerate with 40 locations around the world.
The 800-acre Sunway Resort City (SRC), Sunway’s flagship city, which welcomes 40 million visitations annually, will be the first location, where loyal customers can accumulate savings through Sunway Pals. SRC is made up of many entities such as hospitality, leisure, medical, retail, property and education divisions. This includes Sunway Pyramid, which is the 8th largest shopping mall in the world, with 890 tenants.
Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group, Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah said at the launch, “For the 40th Anniversary celebrations, we have selected the theme “Sunway, A Part of You” specifically because we wanted to pay tribute to all Malaysians who have supported its growth. We are proud also to announce that we have achieved a solid earnings growth for the financial year 2013 with a net profit of RM1.5 billion, a significant increase from RM438.8 million of the previous financial year. This is a landmark financial performance in the Group’s history, which makes our 40th Anniversary more special indeed”.
“In many ways, Malaysians from all over the country have allowed Sunway to be a part of their lives, and for that, we are deeply grateful. Across Malaysia, we are welcoming more and more new members into the communities we are building as we endeavour to enrich more lives with our innovations,” added Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah.
Sunway Pals will grow together with Sunway Group as it builds its future communities. This includes Sunway City Ipoh and Sunway’s upcoming development, Sunway Iskandar in Johor. The programme will be extended to other Sunway-owned malls such as Sunway Giza, Sunway Carnival and Sunway Putra Mall.
There is a cardless option for the programme which customers can register through the Sunwaypals smartphone App. The programme is recognised at numerous participating merchants of fashion, accessories, optical, digital, beauty, health, gifts and many more products and services as well as food and beverage outlets at Sunway Pyramid Mall.
The Sunway PALS programme rewards its customers with loyalty points every time they shop within Sunway. The points are then converted into cash rebates, which gives them savings when they spend. Each RM100 spent is converted into 100 Sunway Loyalty Points, which is rewarded RM1 cash rebate.
Members of the public can register for Sunway Pals for free at its Customer Service Centre at G1.96, Red Zone, Ground Floor, Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall (near ice-skating rink), through the Sunwaypals app on smartphones or through the website www.sunwaypals.com.my. Sunway Pals by Sunway Property has been renamed to Sunway Property Pals.
