North American Wildlife Expert
Host of America the Wild with Casey Anderson
Nicknamed the “animal magnet” as a kid, Casey Anderson grew up in Montana surrounded by wilderness and animals. After college, he became an animal keeper and trainer at wildlife parks, traveling to elephant orphanages in Kenya, hanging out with crocodiles and even getting thrashed by a mountain lion.
Born and raised in East Helena, Mont., Casey is a fifth-generation Montanan and has been involved in film and television production for more than 16 years. Specializing in North American species, Casey’s popular Nat Geo WILD series, America the Wild with Casey Anderson, returns for its fourth season on Sunday, August 18, 2013, where he travels the Americas to bring us closer to the wildlife roaming in our backyards. Additionally, this November, Casey hosts Man vs. Cheetah, a special featuring a race between an NFL player and a cheetah that will kick off Nat Geo WILD’s fourth annual Big Cat Week, a seven-night television event highlighting powerfully resonant stories of nature’s fiercest felines and the people working to save these majestic cats.
Casey is also the host of the interactive videogame Kinect Nat Geo TV from Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect, a first-of-its-kind gaming experience blending television with stimulated learning. Bringing Casey into the homes of Americans across the nation, the game turns your living room into an animal habitat and you into a variety of animals, such as a bear, without ever leaving your living room.
As if having your own game wasn’t enough, Casey continues to bring Americans closer to wildlife through National Geographic Expeditions, where he serves as a wildlife expert on 8-day voyages to explore the pristine wilderness in numerous wildlife destinations including Alaska. He is also a curator for National Geographic’s Great Nature Project, an unprecedented attempt to capture and appreciate Earth’s biodiversity, by asking anyone with a camera to take photos of any plants or animals that they come across and share them with the world by uploading them to various social media platforms.
Not your average guy, Casey rescued his best pal and grizzly bear, Brutus, from being euthanized, and ever since, the bear has been a huge part of his life, leading him to build a new sanctuary just for Brutus. Natural performers, Casey and Brutus were featured in the WILD series Expedition Wild. In addition, Casey has led two expeditions to Botswana’s Okavango Delta for the HD wildlife series Untamed and, working with Brutus, has shed light on the fate of Yellowstone’s vulnerable island population of grizzlies in Expedition Grizzly for National Geographic Channel in April 2009. He is also the author of “The Story of Brutus: My Life with Brutus the Bear and Grizzlies of North America” and contributes to various other publications.
Together they have worked on feature films, television shows and commercials. When they are not on set, they spend their days at Montana Grizzly Encounter in Bozeman, Mont., a bear rescue and education facility that Casey founded in 2004. Whether they are educating the public on grizzly conservation, wrestling in the grass or on a location, this tandem loves what they do.
Casey is the recipient of the 2010 Panda Award for Best Presenter-Led Program for Expedition Grizzly at the Wildscreen Festival in Bristol, U.K. He has made appearances on numerous news and entertainment shows including “Good Morning America,” “Conan,” “Fox & Friends,” “Nightline,” “Access Hollywood” and “Inside Edition.”
