A week back I was invited to try out an authentic Japanese delicacy pasteries Mochi or MO.Cheeks at Akachan No Hoppe, Mid Valley Megamall. Akachan No Hoppe here means baby cheeks and I was told that these Mo.Cheeks are careful make from hand selected of azuki beans. paste and glutinous rice. I like the tenderness of the mochi texture especially the one’s that came with black sesame flavour, it was robust and had a fabulous earthen aroma. So was their Edamame fillings that had a fabulous grounded chunky texture and had a real nice aroma that referred to “Zunda” in Japanese.
BRC Group is the company behind making this authentic Japanese delicacy pastries under the brand name Akachan No Hoppe. Akachan no Hoppe’s baby cheeks, is a brand originated from the city of Itoigawa, Niigata in Japan. Being in Malaysia for its first time, the brand produces a unique pastry that oozes a definite feel of softness, love-filled fluffiness which comes naturally from the mo.cheeks
According to the CEO of BRC GROUP, Mr. K.C.Choo, “Japanese cuisine is fairly common in Malaysia. However, it is often difficult to obtain a fresh authentic Japanese food. Akachan no Hoppe is offering more than just a unique pastry but also the authenticity and freshness. Our products are made in Malaysia using the techniques and skills together with our Japanese partner.”
The founder of Akachan no Hoppe, Mr. Yamakawa Takehisa, added that, “We are greatly honoured and excited to be in Malaysia. Japanese pastries ‘Wagashi’, represents a large part of Japan’s food culture and we are delighted to play a part in unrevealing these treasures globally”.
At Akachan No Happe there are 13 unique flavours ranging from Red Bean, Green Tea, Black Sesame, Edamame, Japanese Plum, Double Chocolate, Strawberry Love, Melty Caramel, Tropical Pineapple, Jungle Banana and the three new flavours – Au Latte, Roasted Cappuccino and White Chocolate.
For me I like the texture of Akachan No Happe mochi, soft, tender and comes in a hand held size. For my taste buds, I prefer less weet fillings such as azuki, black sesame, green tea, double chocolate and especially Edamame. Mo.Cheeks are definitely a great way to finish of a meal with a great after taste dessert.
