GAB Puts A Spin to Food and Beer Pairing This OKTOBERFEST at TAI ZI HEEN, Prince Hotel

I was in for a pleasant surprise as I attended a beer pairing with fine Chinese dining organised by Gunnisee Anchor Berhad (GAB) at Prince Hotel and Residencs Kuala Lumpur’s signature Chinese restaurant, Tai Zi Heen. The collaboration had created a 3 course beer pairing promotion to celebrate “For The Love of Beer” from October 1-31.

During the dinner I was given the opportunity to pair Tiger, Guinness, Strongbow and Pauliner with 6 course dishes prepared by Chef Michael Wong, Tai Zi Heen’s Chinese Head Chef. Each dish was designed to be paired with a particular beer to bring out the unique taste profile of the different GAB beers as well as enhancing the taste of the food, giving diners a gastronomic experience that cannot be replicated by other drinks.

Diving into the first dishes truly excites me. I know some was lfet speechless and my mind went wondering around with joy for seconds will it was creaming my tongue. I meant the foie gras. I just love the blending of strong creaminess of the foi gras yet strong in flavour incorperating with few sipping of chilled Guinness. The flavour truly sipping through my mind, yes it was rather slightly mind bloening to me. Yes I am the Guinness junky! How can one not like it, I practically grew up with Guinness. :) Good choice!

I was told that this Strongbow is the ladies best friend but I like it too. Does that make me a . . . . . ! that makes me wonder at times as I do share the same likings as them ! Life. I like the sweet and slightly acidic aftertaste of this drink and it jive pretty well with the soup and finishing it with the unagi-parmasen stick was just terrific!

According to Mr Keith Nair The Guinness Anchor Berhad’s Ambassador, the Tiger, Guinness, Strongbow and Paulaner are uniquely different in taste profiles as being a lager, stout, cider and wheat beer respectively. He added that drinkers may able to tell the differences when taste them amd the unique flavours of the beer will truly come alive when they are paired with the right type of dish. I toomyself believe it is not a simple thing as just pairing it with food but also how the dish is prepared and cooked need to take into account.

Tai Zi Heen’s “For The Love of Beer” 3-course beer menu is available throughout GAB’s Oktoberfest Celebrations form October 1-31 at RM150++ per person. Each dish will be paired with Tiger, Guiness, Strongbow and Paulner and each diner can take home a special limited edition GAB’s Oktoberfest 1L ceramis mug.

I was caught in silent for a second. The dish standing gracuiously infront of me did excite me and also well pired with Paulaner, my favourite pints at this monet but . . . .. . . . . . I would not mind to have this dish with another pint of GUinness. yeah me the junky. I just love the bitter sweetness of the rich sauce. While the strong favour of the oyster just jive so well with the whole complilation. Fabulous!

“OH!” I told myself. We are having this yet again with never fail to impress me. A outer crisp cod and moist inside was just preferly exected and coating it on top with baked sweet creamy sauce (I suspected it was home make mayo) just turn it into an explosive dish by itself. NOw came the Paulaner that smoothen the whole indulgence process, lovely!

Well coming to the near end, we had the yam ring filled with kung poh style chicken paird with Tiger Beer. Just love yam coated with some leftover sweet kung poh that takes the Tiger to another level of elegant taste. I know iut gave such a snesation taste while it was bursting with greatness just inside my mouth :) Like it.

Edible art it was, so pretty and left us wonder if one should indulge into it. Well we did, can’t resist of not having it. The entrance was spectecular, smoke was appearng everywhere where the presence of the the dessert. Love the colour of the purple sweet potato and it taste good too. The mango ice cream balance out the sweetness and paring it with Strongbow was a good choice and iit makes the whole dessert truly juicy !

Just love to be part of this beer-pairing dinner and I truly did not missall the jolly good stuff ! Just an awesome evening. Truly a blessing ! . . . . . . . .Sidney Kani
