I was totally excited when I read about Zuan Yuan having the Hong Kong food promotion this month of October. Just love the Chinese cuisine churned at this restaurant as it never fails to inspire my taste buds. Upon knowing Chef Michael Chew Yuan recent excursion in Hong Kong I know I am gong to enjoy a pleasant dinner.
To a brief start, we were introduced to the great teasing of crunchy bitter cucumber laced with spicy sauce. It was thePoached Bitter Cucumber “Sze Chuan” Style that had everyone’s attention. Unique and myteriously delicious. Slightly poached bitter cucumeber was the secret as to infused the chunchuness tetxure in the dish had played a big role and also in the reduction of the bitterness. As to counter balanced the taste, “Sze Chuan” hot sauce was put into play. Fabulous to grace the evening.
Walking into this dish can be such a heaven experience. The sea conch was chopped into small chunks together with refreshing cucumber then coated with delicious wasabi sauce. Mild sweet with a spike of heat, just love it and yet left with admiration. Well don’t we Asian just love their mayoinnase sauce !
I just love this soup, the Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup with Dried Scallop and “Chong Cao Hua” definitely an epic! The soup itself was refinely done that left with a hint of sweetness and encapsulated with such freshness in taste. I just love having to throw in a few dried scallops and cordyceps “Chong Cao Hua” in the soup boiling as it nutrifies the soup with uch great taste and smell.
A rich yellowish creamy sauce was the base of this Wok Fried Tiger Prawn with Special Sauce . “Smells lovely”. softly spoken by my next door guests as she was teasing her husband. It was truly good, lusting me with such a joy of having it with my both bare fingers. The curry hinted sauce was terrific while the prawn had the fabulous crunch texture. I noticed all the sauce was wiped cleaned on every plate. Guessed it was just irresistable.
Well no need to introduce, the Chicken with King Soya Sauce Served in Clay Pot was my favoourite of all that night. I just admired the simplicity as it looks of the dish, so well crafted. The refreshing taste of the supreme soy had just make it hard to stay away from while the chicken left us felt so tender. Execellent.
I just love cod fish defintely one of the dish that always look forward too. It;s such a diversify ingredient to work with, you can have it either steamed, pan fried, grilled or even it slow braised. Here I just loved it being braised with exciting morel mushroom. The fabulous smell and taste just makes its way into the cod itself leaving it filled with bursting flavour. Truly executed well.
Simplicity with a touch of artisitc makes this next dish Braised Bean Curd with Egg and Tomato Sauce so wanting and adoreable. I just amused looking at the refinely sliced beancurd, defintely there were gentlely handled and no breakages. The egg was slowly cooked till soft silky in the tomato sauce in order to compliment the bean curd be a greater taste and smoothness, it was so syiok! I just can’t get enought of it even kept hanging on to it with my soup spoon. It make me felt so shy for a second.
Something unique, something different you got to try their Assorted Diced Sea Food with Crispy Rice in Lobster Soup . I always have a soft spot for a warm soup but this one came with rice. Verdict : It was so so exciting indeed. I just love the smell. Lobster? That got me going for more. Well the fact the soup was unique and yet looked simple, a lobster soup with diced seafood but it also contained crispy rice. It just tasted fabulous as having the crunch addiction. Bravo!
The Chef had a request that night and his task was to dish up his favourite dish and came the Honey Glazed Boneless Chicken topped with Crispy Ginger Flakes . I was raving it within seconds as it got into my mouth! Sweet calamelized chicken with strong flavour of crispy ginger flakes got everyone’s attention. it was just lovely and adoreable to eat.
Having a bite into this next dessert can just melt you away. I had it layer by layer, so intrigging. This Black and White Sesame Glutinous Rice Cake tasted so good, it was not overly sweet at all and it was dense and flavoursome with white and black sesame. Defintely one of the best and creative dessert that I ever taste. Even the the look is eye-catching and sealed my lips right away.
The next pairing was such a sweet lip-licious dessert, lusty Mango and buttery Avocado a “Ying Yang” Style chilled soup. Definitely it had solicated me in cleaning the whole plate without leaving a trace. Nice.
Executive Chef Michael Chew has over 24 years of experience in the food industry and seems to master the talent to control his refined Cantonese cuisine very well. All dishes have a good balance of taste and flavors. His dishes are so well spot on, defintely an excellent chef and a name to look out for in the comings. . . . . I am definitely a well satified customer here at Zuan Yuan.
